At Interlocking Pictures, we approach filmmaking with EQUAL PARTS compassion and determination.
Our storytelling always starts with relationships -- building trust so we can document the intimate and ephemeral moments of our subject’s lives with beauty, honesty and intention. We’re not here to tell our own story - we’re here to amplify what connects us.
Founded in 2020 by documentary filmmaker Matt Durning, Interlocking Pictures is a full-service production company headquartered in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
With over a decade of experience in non-fiction film, television, and commercial production, Matt has established a directorial style guided by empathy, exploration, and execution. He is respected for his calm leadership, tireless work ethic, and deeply collaborative spirit.
Matt has produced feature-length, episodic, and short form work for partners including HBO, ESPN Films, Wired, Ovation, Smithsonian Channel, YouTube, PBS, and Al Jazeera, as well as music videos for visionary artists like Sylvan Esso and Che Apalache.
His short film for Che Apalache’s political anthem The Dreamer was hailed by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the best country music videos of 2019.
